Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Do you accept insurance?
I am an out-of-network provider and do not bill insurance companies directly. This model allows me to provide highly personalized, unhurried care without the constraints often imposed by insurance carriers. Many patients are able to receive significant reimbursement through their "out-of-network" benefits.
How do "Superbills" and reimbursement work?
At the end of each visit, I provide you with a specialized receipt called a Superbill. You can submit this to your insurance company for potential reimbursement. I recommend calling the number on the back of your insurance card and asking: "What are my out-of-network benefits for outpatient mental health office visits?"
What are your fees for evaluations and follow-ups?
Transparency in pricing is a core value of my practice.
  • Initial Evaluation (60-90 minutes): $350
  • 60-min Follow-up Appointments: $400
  • 30-min Follow-up Appointments: $200
Payments are due at the time of service.
What is the first appointment like?
The initial consultation is a deep dive into your history, biology, and goals. We will move beyond just "symptoms" to understand the full context of your life. This involves a diagnostic assessment and formulation of a treatment plan. By the end of this session, we will have a collaborative roadmap for your treatment, whether that includes therapy, medication, or a combination of both.
What is your policy on controlled substances (ADHD/Anxiety)?
I take a conservative and evidence-based approach to prescribing. Controlled substances (such as stimulants or benzodiazepines) may be part of a treatment plan if clinically indicated after a thorough evaluation. I do not provide prescriptions for these medications without a formal, in-person assessment and ongoing monitoring for safety and efficacy. I require at least one in-person evaluation before prescribing and will ask for a Urine Drug Screen to be completed.
Do you offer telehealth or in-person visits?
Both. I see patients in my private office in Columbia, MD, and I also provide secure, HIPAA-compliant telepsychiatry for residents of Maryland and Wisconsin.
What is your cancellation policy?
Because I reserve time for scheduled appointments specifically for you, I require 24 hours' notice for cancellations or rescheduling. Appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours' notice will be charged the full session fee.

Clinic Policies

Appointment Scheduling

All Initial Evaluations are conducted as a consultation only. A formal physician-patient relationship is not established until this initial assessment is complete and we have mutually agreed to proceed with a treatment plan. This first meeting allows me to conduct a thorough diagnostic review to determine if I can safely and effectively meet your clinical needs within the specific scope of my solo practice. Whether or not we are a collaborative fit depends on my confidence in being able to manage your specific symptoms or coordinate the necessary level of care without the multidisciplinary resources of a larger clinic. If I determine that my practice is not the optimal setting for your care, I will provide you with a clinical assessment and a recommended roadmap for your next steps; however, we will not proceed with a second visit.

Appointment frequency is determined by medical complexity, medication complexity/risk, clinical need, and patient preference.

No Shows & Cancellations

In general, failure to cancel an appointment with more than 24-hours’ notice and no shows will result in a fee, as shown in the fee schedule. I understand that life happens and things come up, so please reach out if you need to cancel and I will do my best to re-schedule and work with you.

Failure to appear for an appointment at the time reserved for you will be billed to you at full fee per the appointment fee schedule. If you arrive to your appointment 15 minutes late, this is considered a missed appointment, and you will need to be rescheduled.

Again, I understand that there are some circumstances that cannot be avoided (emergencies, severe weather, etc.) and such events will be taken into consideration.

Please note, multiple no show appointments may result in discharge from clinic. This will be discussed with warning prior to being enacted.

Medication Refills

I require 48 business-hours of notice for prescription refill requests. Please be advised that regular visits are required to continue medications. During visits, I do my best to ensure that medications are prescribed with sufficient refills to avoid having to contact the office outside of visits for refills – with some exceptions that will be explained when they arise. If you are needing to contact me for refills, it is likely an indication that we are off-schedule in terms of frequency of visits, so please plan to schedule a visit with your request.

For stimulants, refills can be more difficult to coordinate for two reasons: 1) A new script must be written each month. 2) There is a national shortage and many pharmacies are frequently out of stock. If you need a stimulant refill, it is your responsibility to contact local pharmacies to check if it is in stock. When this is identified, let me know the pharmacy name and address and I will send it as soon as I am able.
